"Chinese scientist Yuan Longping, widely known for developing the first hybrid rice strain（杂交水稻品种）,died of illness on Saturday, May 22,2021.

The top rice scientist in China passed away in a hospital in Changsha, capital of Hunan Province, at about 1 p.m., according to the news report.
