In the past, people used to think that the Earth was the center of the universe. They believed that the sun, the moon, and the stars all revolved around the Earth. This idea was called the geocentric model.

However, in the 16th century, a Polish astronomer named Nicolaus Copernicus proposed a new idea. He suggested that the Earth and the other planets actually revolve around the sun. This idea was called the heliocentric model.

Copernicus' idea was not widely accepted at first. Many people were afraid to challenge the traditional belief that the Earth was the center of the universe. However, over time, more and more evidence was discovered that supported Copernicus' theory.

One of the most important pieces of evidence came from the Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei. In the early 17th century, Galileo used a telescope to observe the night sky. He discovered that the moon had mountains and craters, just like the Earth. He also observed that Jupiter had moons orbiting around it. These observations provided strong evidence that the Earth was not the center of the universe.

Today, we know that Copernicus and Galileo were right. The heliocentric model is now widely accepted, and we understand that the Earth is just one of many planets that revolve around the sun.
